Hi, I'm a new subscriber to this list, and would like to begin using HtDig as a Subject Search Engine (SSE) for European Archaeology (for which I maintain the WWW Virtual Library site at www.let.rug.nl/arge/). HtDig was installed on my HP-UX server a while back, and I've done some experimenting with configurations already, but I want to do some complicated things and therefore hope to profit from advice on this list. What I want: I want to use HtDig to index a relatively small number (about 10 at present) web sites offering guides to the archaeology of individual countries. I will then write a small bit of search.html for my own VL page, and also pass it to the webmasters of those 10 sites so they, too, can offer Europe-wide searches on their pages. The problem: These web sites are all very different in the way they structure information (eg, different click depths), they are in different languages and character sets, and some of them are database-driven. I simply don't know how to configure HtDig to do a proper but not wasteful search of each of those 10 sites. My question: Is there a good soul out there who has done this kind of thing and can coach me through the configuration process? Or does anyone know of a site that has done a similar type of configuration and might be prepared to send me a copy of their config files? Many thanks for your help!
