OK, this is a really good illustration of why it's totally self-defeating
to try avoiding "cluttering" the mailing list with debugging output from
htdig. If you'd posted the relevant output from "htdig -vvv" for one PDF
document, there are probably a half dozen people on the list who would have
immediately identified this known bug. Instead, it turned into a week-long
thread with all sorts of fruitless speculation about what the cause of the
problem might be, with no hard data to point to the real problem.
Please, folks, don't be shy about posting a few dozen, or even a few hundred
lines of debugging output and error messages. Exactness counts for a lot
in tracking down problems. Close only counts in horseshoes.
