The problem isn't the script, but acroread 4 itself. The script
should work with acroread 3 or 4, as long as acroread doesn't crash.
The problem is acroread 4 is very unstable, at least on Linux, and crashes
very frequently when using the -toPostScript option. My acroconv.pl
script doesn't use the -pairs option to acroread, which seemed to cause
acroread 4 to crash even more frequently, but there's not a lot I can
do about the bugs in Acrobat. I suggest installing Acrobat Reader 3 on
your system for purposes of running acroconv.pl. You can have versions
3 and 4 installed at the same time if you prefer 4 for viewing files.
You'll still have problems with PDFs generated by Acrobat 4 or 5, but
there's not a lot that can be done about that.

If you're not running the latest version of xpdf (0.92 at this time),
I'd suggest giving it a try as well. It may help. If it does, I'd also
recommend using doc2html.pl as an external converter, rather than any
external parser script.
