According to Huby, Patrick:

Did you not get my reply to you yesterday? I explained this situation at
great length yesterday, in response to your private mail, fully 8 hours
before you reposted this minimalist version of the question to the list.

The whole issue about slow searches for common words in a large database
is nothing new. It's been a known problem with the 3.1.x series for
YEARS, and it's been documented in FAQ 5.10 for almost as long as it's
been known. It really doesn't need to be rehashed again on this list
because nobody bothered to read my reply yesterday, or the FAQ.

If you have solid data that conclusively shows a slow down in htsearch
from 3.1.5 to 3.1.6, that's not explainable by disk caching or excessive
fetching of db.docdb records, then I'd like to see it.
