Wouldn't it be quicker and easy to actually try it out in htsearch rather
than e-mailing the list and waiting a day or two for a reply?  All synonyms
defined on a single line are treated as equivalent, so using any one of them
should pull all the other ones as fuzzy matches.

No, words should only be defined once.  If a word appears on more than
one line, all equivalences for that word will be lost except for the
last line on which it occurs.
