Unless you do something silly like install the software in a subdirectory of the source directory, then there's no problem at all in removing the entire source directory after you've installed everything. I would think the same would hold true of the gnu make package, and probably any GNU package. If you need to reinstall, you can always re-extract the files from the tar archive and re-configure, re-compile and re-install. -- Gilles R.
