According to Gints Polis: > I want to translate HTDIG in my local language. Which is the best way to do > that. I don't want that my translation disapiears after system HTDIG > upgrade. > Is it posible at all?
Yes. See http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q4.10 Pay attention to the list of language-specific attributes towards the end. There are many attributes to change if you want a complete translation of all messages. See also http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q4.2 for tips on customizing htsearch. To avoid your custom configuration and template files disappearing, first of all make sure you back them up, but it also helps if you put all your language-specific template and dictionary files in another directory so they don't get replaced by an upgrade (particularly if you use an RPM package for htdig). You can do this by changing the setting of common_dir in your configuration file. The configuration file will have to go in your CONFIG_DIR (where the default htdig.conf is installed), but you can give it a different name or keep a backup copy. -- Gilles R.
