It's not needed if you don't plan to run htdig in update mode (without -i) to update the databases. If you run htdig -i or rundig to reindex from scratch, the file will be recreated as needed, and can be deleted afterward. However, for update digs, htdig needs the db.wordlist so it can update it. -- Gilles R.
