By default, htsearch shows the title if the documents have one, and the filename otherwise. The way to get titles is to ensure the documents have titles. See http://www.htdig.org/attrs.html#no_title_text However, if you're dealing with an ht://Dig installation that someone else customised, it may be they used templates that were different than the default ones, and you may need to alter these to suit your tastes.
