Well, I'm sorry you're in a confused state, but as you have guessed, 
ht://Dig is largely for web-based searching. At the moment it isn't 
easy to do a directory-based search -- you would have to write a 
script to loop through the directories and list a URL for each file 
that you intend to index.

Also, to get ht://Dig to run on WinNT, you will have to install the 
CygWin package: <http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/>
