The preferred way to index PDF files is via an external parser. (There was a PDF parser that used Acrobat to create PS files that were parsed, but this is depreciated.) I'm assuming this is not a version of ht://Dig that you've downloaded from the htdig.org website and compiled yourself. What version of ht://Dig are you using and where did you get it?
