According to David Adams:

I would tend to agree with you, but I suspect that a lot of users would
find that correcting for common misspellings is a very useful thing to
get the synonyms algorithm to do. Still, we could make yours the default,
and the old one available as an alternative. Any other opinions?

The spelling "tonite" is certainly in common usage, but according to a
search on www.dictionary.com, there's only one correct usage of the word:

   tonite \Ton"ite\, n. [Cf.L. tonare to thunder.] An explosive compound;
   a preparation of gun cotton.

   Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.

Not quite a synonym of tonight, is it? :-) I guess the common usage
is best handled as any other common misspellings.
