What sort of trouble did you have? Did you consult the FAQ for help?
(Especially questions 4.1 and the questions to which it refers you.)
There are lots of things that can go wrong when trying to index a
site, and the FAQ can really help sort out many of the common problems.
Question 5.27 explains the error messages you may see when running htdig
with -vvv.

> Not sure how to go about displaying results from two different search

This usually involves writing a wrapper program that can run different
search engines and pool the results. It's not a trivial thing to do,
and probably not as elegant as an integrated solution using one database.
If a few problems indexing one site are all that's keeping you from
using htdig and htsearch for the whole collection, it would probably
be easier and more productive to figure out a solution to indexing this
site with htdig.
