Hey all: I finally figured out what my problem was... Or rather, I've solved my problem but I'm not sure what the defining moment was. In the end I cleaned up a bunch of JavaScript, HTML and PHP _comments_. I also removed a PHP loop that wasn't being used. And suddenly the crawl started to work properly. I'm not entirely sure why, but at least the world is a happier place now.
I've just gotten an email from Jim Cole suggesting that the commented out JavaScript was probably the culprit. Yay!! Problem identified -- and solved (it was a script I wasn't using).
