First, I'd suggest sending messages to the htdig-general mailing list 
exclusively. <http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q1.16> It's much more likely 
to be answered since it's otherwise going to end up at the bottom of my 
inbox.

At the moment, XML documents will tend to be indexed as plain text 
documents. I say "tend" since the webserver would need to send out a 
text/ MIME type for the document. So you may indeed want to have an 
external parser or external converter to deal with your XML documents. 
Of course if the XML is simply XHTML, you can have the server send out 
the document as text/html and everything will continue as normal.
