[htdig] unpredictable results on search feature

Can anyone answer this question? I installed htdig on my web site through Earthlink.  Sometimes, I will search for a word that I absolutely know is in my site, but the result with return, "not found".  Other times, it will find the exact same word.  How can I fix this problem?
