I searched the list archives and didn't come up with much for this, so here goes. Sorry if this is a FAQ.
I'm running the vBulletin (vbulletin.com) forum software on a site, and when it fails to connect to the MySQL server, it sends mails to a predefined error address. I have a cron set to run rundig every day at 3am, and coincidentally, end up with about 100 or so emails from vBulletin complaining that my MySQL server is dead. According to the MySQL log, there are a jillion queries happening as htdig indexes the site (no surprise), and it's totally killing the server (a bit of a disappointment). So, short of messing with my server setup, is there any way to alleviate this problem? I poked around for some .conf option to slow things down a bit, but didn't turn anything up.
