That release number doesn't correspond to any known htdig release, nor
to current Mandrake RPM package releases of htdig. Are you sure you
don't mean 3.1.5, or did you pick up a package from somewhere other than
htdig.org or a Mandrake CD or mirror site?

So why the step back? On Wednesday, you reported that you tried htdig
version 3.1.6, on my advice, and that you got past this error as a result.
I had recommended that you make sure you add the accents algorithm to
your search_algorithm attribute in your search config, as well as making
sure you set the locale in that config if it's different than the one you
use for digging. If you're not using 3.1.6, you're wasting your time.
(The only exception is if you need some of the features of the 3.2
beta series, where you should then try the latest 3.2.0b4 snapshot.
Nothing you've written so far suggests you need that, though.)

I don't recommend using any of the Mandrake RPMs of htdig either,
as they seem to be using the July 22, 2001 snapshot of 3.2.0b4,
which still isn't as current and reliable as more recent snapshots.
Even their htdig-3.2.0-0.5mdk.src.rpm update RPM package (for 8.1) does
at least include the Oct. 2001 security fix, but only as a patch to the
July 22 snapshot, so none of the other recent fixes are there.
