I've no idea about how the Berkeley DB is built into htdig.
Anyway, in between the distribution has reached version 4.x.x, while 
htdig 3.1.6 ships with version 2.6.4 - building in a new version with 
major number above 2 would probably take some effort as DB format and 
callling methods seem to have changed from 2.x.x to 3.x.x (see the 
changelogs at http://www.sleepycat.com/update/index.html).

Maybe a quick fix can be done by brute-force manipulating the DB 
configure script htdig-3.1.6/db/dist/configure in line 2712 ff. to make 
it believe Linux eventually also does know how to handle big files like 
BSD and others... I'll just make a try this weekend and report if it works.
