Well, not knowing any Polish myself, I don't even know if "home" and "hom" are two grammatically related words in Polish. I can explain that the endings algorithm uses sets of rules for a given language to figure out what endings can be used for a given word. These rules are contained in ispell dictionary and affix files (see http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q4.10) which describe all the variations possible for a given word (pluralisation, possessive form, noun to adjective to adverb, conjugations of verbs, genders and declensions of nouns/adjectives if applicable). If that's the sort of fuzzy matching you're looking for, then look into setting up and using endings for Polish. If what you really want is simple matching of partial words, then look into the prefix and substring algorithms. -- Gilles R.
