The htsearch CGI makes no attempt to deduce a web-browser, so right off the bat, I'd lean towards Domino doing something strange. But there's a more definite way to tell... <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"></HEAD> http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1"> Do either of these appear in your search templates (i.e. the header)? The former came from the "empty" document, and the latter came from the successful one.
