The htsearch CGI makes no attempt to deduce a web-browser, so right off
the bat, I'd lean towards Domino doing something strange. But there's a
more definite way to tell...

Do either of these appear in your search templates (i.e. the header)? The
former came from the "empty" document, and the latter came from the
successful one. Offhand, I'd guess that Domino is doing some sort of
content-negotiation before it calls htsearch.
