Dear Gilles! ThankYou for Your help, which solved problems beyond htdit!
>According to htdig: >> However, results on words i .pdffiles result in star-icons but no >doc-name. >> I understand tha as .pdf don't have a <title></title> tag, the >> docunentname would be parsed instead. I take that has to do with the >> pdf2html.pl ? > >Yes, this is done in the pdf_head subroutine in pdf2html.pl. It runs >pdfinfo to get the INFO dictionary contents from the PDF, and sets the >title to what's in there. If the title is an empty string, it uses the >file name instead. However, if the title is set to some random character, >as I've seen in some PDFs, that's all you get for a title. This made me make a test on the pdfparse.pl instead. That solved the problem. I seems that it deals a bit better on the random characters! > >> >BTW, you do not need execute permissions on your PDF files, only on >your >> >directories and CGI programs. >> I am glad You mention this, because it indicates a problem in my Aache >> setup. >> I always thaugt it was wrong, but if I remove the xbit from either .pdf >or >> .jpg files the browser returns an >> "acces not allowed" error. > >Hmm, are you sure you didn't also remove the x-bit from the directory >at the same time? Directories need execute permission, or else you can't >access their contents. Or maybe you removed read permission at the >same time? What command did you use to change the permissions? Again You were right ! I did a chmod -R *pdf, which include /pdf/ dirs as well. The same accounted for my .jpg's It has been a pleasure to obtain clear instructions on vague expressions.
