According to Daniel S. Haischt: > first of all a big thanx! > installing htdig by following you instructions, worked just > like a dream.
Glad they helped. > second, i don't understand why sf don't ships > a custom (and working) version of htdig if the do > host the site. You and me both. It seems doubly ironic that they told Geoff, one of the primary maintainers of ht://Dig, that they didn't want to install the version of ht://Dig we recommend, but preferred to go instead with whatever Red Hat slapped together. It put us in a difficult spot as far as the htdig.org web site, because we couldn't easily upgrade to the latest release on our own site, and until a couple months ago we were running old 3.1.5 binaries until we bit the bullet and figured out the way out of this. (We also went through pains to get the Geocrawler archives indexed, but that's another story.) > do you think it is possible to add your instructions to the > official htdig FAQs? It's possible, but given that you're the only one that's asked this so far, I don't think your question meets the F in FAQ. For now, it's in the archives (which are finally searchable), and I'll add it to the FAQ if this seems to come up again. Then again, it might serve as an example of a more generic "How do I install ht://Dig on a server on which I can't compile?" -- Gilles R.
