You and me both.  It seems doubly ironic that they told Geoff, one of
the primary maintainers of ht://Dig, that they didn't want to install
the version of ht://Dig we recommend, but preferred to go instead with
whatever Red Hat slapped together.  It put us in a difficult spot as far
as the htdig.org web site, because we couldn't easily upgrade to the
latest release on our own site, and until a couple months ago we were
running old 3.1.5 binaries until we bit the bullet and figured out the
way out of this.  (We also went through pains to get the Geocrawler
archives indexed, but that's another story.)

It's possible, but given that you're the only one that's asked this
so far, I don't think your question meets the F in FAQ.  For now, it's
in the archives (which are finally searchable), and I'll add it to the
FAQ if this seems to come up again.

Then again, it might serve as an example of a more generic "How do I
install ht://Dig on a server on which I can't compile?"
