According to Eddy De Clercq: > The dbwordlist contains data and I tried to search stuff that's in it and > get no result. What could be the problem with htsearch/htmerge?
First, let's try and rule out a problem with htmerge. Do you have a db.words.db file in your database directory? Is it at least as new as the db.wordlist, and is it anywhere close to the size of db.wordlist (i.e. not orders of magnitude smaller)? Are all files in the database directory readable by anyone (i.e. no read permission bits turned off in the file mode)? If all these things seem OK, the problem is more likely to be with htsearch. You specified that you never get any results when using the command line htsearch. Do you get a different outcome when running htsearch from the web server and accessing it through a browser? Are you sure that htsearch is using the same config file, or at least the same database files, as htdig and htmerge used? Have you tried running htsearch with the -c option from the command line to explicitly specify the config file, or changed the "config" input parameter in your search form if necessary? Are you sure that you don't have more than one "htsearch" binary installed on your system, and if you do, are you running one that's incompatible with your databases? (I.e. do you have any remaining vestiges of Red Hat's htdig or htdig-web RPM packages from the 3.2 beta release?) Finally, when you say you never get any results, do you mean htsearch always shows the "No matches were found for '...'" page, or is it showing the results page but with no results listed, or showing nothing at all? If it's one of the latter cases, see http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q5.11 and http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q5.36 Earlier, I wrote... > > According to Eddy De Clercq: > > > I've been indexing 162 documents (2233K), but whenever I'm using the > > > command line htsearch, I never get any results, even when I use words > > > that I'm 100% sure that it's in there. > > > > Have a look at the db.wordlist file in your database directory.
