I had a look at the archives, but didn't come up with anything on these 2 questions. I'm using htdig to index the archives of our email discussion lists in Mailman:
1) what type of algorithm does htdig use to determine how many stars to assign to a citation? There are many times when htdig will assign 3 starts to one citation and 4 to the next one, when there is nothing that differentiates them, at least that I can see, ie, they both are exact matches to the search criterion . . . and
2) is there a secondary search criterion that htdig uses in selecting the order in which to display matches? Seems to me that date would be the obvious one, but I keep getting searches in which dates are randomly represented among a whole list of 3- and 4-star matches . . .
Thanks for any guidance on this.
Matt
