Just loaded the latest 3.3.0b4 snapshot and as you predicted, builds with no
problems on RH 9, *and* without my -fpermissive.  (I normally tend to steer
clear of 'snapshots' but sure does the trick there.)  Now have a full set of
binaries as built from src I can actually see, touch and smell.  Much better
feeling - ta very much,
