hi.. i know this has been asked before, and the developers have
considered/worked on it, and i saw the discussion with Boyd, Pete and
Gilles

  http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=2521010

about it last year (11/2002).

i was wondering what the status of xhtml output from htdig is? i
have 3.2.0 (redhat 9 rpm) but it's still not outputting
xhtml-compliant code, and i was just wondering where 3.2.0 is on
these.

--

also, while i have the opportunity, i wanted to throw into the pot a
couple of other things about xhtml output i have not seen mentioned,
if i may?

i have seen the $(METHOD), $(FORMAT), $(SORT) variables
mentioned, (since they do not give </option> output).

i have also seen <hr /> and <br /> and </p> (closing tags) mentioned..

but i have not seen the output of <img>'s mentioned:

    <img src="/htdig/star.gif" alt="*">
    <img src="/htdig/star_blank.gif" alt=" ">

such as the above, in search output. as far as i can tell, this is NOT
user configurable w/o a recompile (thus FAQ answer at
http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q4.2 is not applicable). these <img>
tags need to have terminators, too:

    <img src="/htdig/star.gif" alt="*" />
    <img src="/htdig/star_blank.gif" alt=" " />

also, i have not seen the <FONT> tag produced on output mentioned,
either. ex:

     <font size="-1">06/25/03, 5170 bytes</font>

(since this is illegal in xhtml entirely, having been moved to CSS)

so, have any of these been worked out in 3.2.0 yet?

or have any /etc/htdig.conf options been added, so that these tags
may be user-configured/changed, etc.?

sorry if this is a FAQ and i'm just blind and have missed it
somewhere. any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks

Jeff Stern
