I would love to hear if anyone has htdig searching pdfs on a RedHat machine presently as then I would at least know that it is my set up instead of something more fishy.
I don't do much of it myself, but there are numerous people currently indexing PDF's with ht://Dig. Have you read through everything in http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q4.9 and the other FAQs it references? Have you tried running the doc2html script from the command line? If not, you might want to first eliminate ht://Dig from the equation to ensure that you have doc2html.pl properly configured and PDF files that are actually indexable in some meaningful way. Once you make it that far, you can then tackled the ht://Dig integration knowing that the basics are covered.
