I'd add to this that any Red Hat system that doesn't have /bin/sort installed is probably badly broken. /bin/sort is part of the textutils or coreutils package, depending on which Red Hat version you've installed, and if that package is removed or corrupted I'd expect a lot of things to go haywire on that machine. ... > > Normally I would just create a symlink for /bin/sort but I don't have access > > to that directory because I'm not root. > > > > What should I do? On Red Hat 9, you should have coreutils installed. On Red Hat 8.0 or earlier, you should have textutils installed. Run "rpm -V coreutils" or "rpm -V textutils" to verify the package, and reinstall it if there's a problem (which apparently there is). -- Gilles R.
