Can you confirm that phrase searching is available in the beta version of the 3.2 code, BUT since the 3.2 code indexes all locations of words, this additional data slows down the indexer too much.
The amount of data to be stored is - for obvious reasons - bigger. The indexer is relatively slower (I can't give you details on this, I am sure others can) but there are a lot of new features that make it more complete.
Should we hold on until the full version is available? When do you anticipate that full version will be available?
We are actually in the process of releasing the 3.2.0RC1 and hopefully by the end of this week we'll release the 3.2.0b5 of ht://Dig, that is to say the best version so far for 3.2. If everything goes fine (also with the help of testing coming from ht://Dig users for the 3.2.0b5), by december we release the 3.2.0RC1 and straight away the 3.2.0.
Ciao,
-Gabriele
