 Thanks for the response. I had tried that, the only reason why I had
set start_url to the local file system is that in googling to find a
solution, someone else had posted to the htdig list that this is what
they had done. I also tried using file:// instead of http, but this
didn't help either. This is why I'm completely stumped.

 Wacky thing just happened. As I was writing this email, I tested a
number of things, and it turns out the problem was with the local_urls
attribute. So, once I fixed that it worked!
