You need to patch the source, Luke :))

Look for ssl.12 and read the README :)
Requirements are: OpenSSL

I recommend also to use egd/prngd to get a better random seed, if you are 
running ht://Dig with Solaris...

Afterwards, you can just define in the config file the start URL as

https://your.domain.com/

and be happy. :)
