bingo! Is it really a good idea to make the *syntax* of the config files depend on the locale? What exactly does the locale setting mean, anyway? Does it specify: - the charset to use in the db - the charset to use for rendering the search results the charset (and language) of a page to be indexed cannot really be specified in a htdig config file; this is something the server controls and communicates along with the data. Similarly for the encoding of search parameters in search requests from a user's browser. I am probably not the only one who uses different config files for digging and for searching. What are the consistency requirements for the locale settings in these two configurations?
