I'm sure this question has been beaten to death, but.. I am pretty surprised at some of my search results. I have tried tweaking with the different search_algorithm settings, and it shuffles some things around but doesn't solve the bigger picture.
I have a page dedicated to hogs on my site. The page's title is "Hogs: Information & Resources". Its description and keywords META tags both include "hogs" prominently. The word Hog or Hogs appears on the page 20-30 times or more. And yet, this page is always ranked 4th or even lower when I do a simple search for "hogs".
Now, get this: The pages that consistently come up in the top three include one that has the word hog ONCE in the entire page code, one that mentions hog may be a couple times, and one that has the word hog 14 or so times but not anywhere in the page title or META tags. And yet all three of these are always ranked above the main Hog page, no matter how I change the algorithm.
Does anyone have any idea whatsoever how htdig ranks pages? I mean the fact that that first page, with its dozens of mentions of the searchword and especially its location in important places like the page title and METAs, is never even in the top THREE results just strikes me as a search engine that doesn't search right.
Thanks for any info & help, -Mike
