Something is wrong with your setup. Or at least changed from the default.
Out of the box, rundig will call htdig with a '-i' which results in any
existing databases being deleted before new databases are built. Have you
modified rundig?

Thanks Jim. I had forgotten that I modified the db dir in rundig in order to do some tests...now I'm curious as to how things were working with the db dir in rundig pointing one way and the db dir in the conf file pointing another...
