I've got this problem tracked down now, and (almost) sorted. The issue is
that htmerge only appears to be applying the -a option to the first
database, but not to the one that is being merged in. (Is this by design, and
if so why?) The solution is either to do the second (external) dig without
the -a option, or else to use the -a option as normal, but insert a
file-renaming phase between the dig/merge and merging the two databases.

Hope this helps someone else in the future, as I saw no warning of this
behaviour in the documentation. (Subtle Hint.)

Mike

The order sounds correct. What does your htmerge command look like?

Are you manually renaming the files with Db. and Ext. or do you actually have
the alternate names defined in your config file? If the former, you might
want to take a look at the database name attributes (i.e. word_list, word_db,
doc_db, doc_list).
