Hello Hugh, I search the general and dev archives and have only been able to find similar problems without any solutions posted. So you're best shot might be posting to the htdig-dev mailinglist. I'm also guessing that maybe even though you specified --with-ssl maybe configure didn't find the files correctly.
Can you specify the exact configure command you used to configure the source build?
