I have a little question about htdig. If I change the settings in the configuration file while I am indexing my site, is htdig changning its behaviour immediatly or just at the next start?
It depends on what you change and how you are indexing. Some of the attributes only affect htsearch, so changing those attributes will have no affect on any part of the index process. The help items for the attributes include information on which program they affect.
If you are indexing with the rundig script, some something similar, then you are actually executing more than one program, each of which will read
a config file when it starts up. If you change an attribute for a program
that is already running, it shouldn't have any affect on that run; I am
not 100% certain, but I don't believe any of the programs reread a config
after the first time at startup. If on the other hand you change an
attribute for a program that is executed by the script, but has not yet
started running, then that change will affect the behavior of the current
run of the script.
