For what it's worth, when I enter 'syringes' I get 10 search results for 
'(syringes or syringe or syringed or syringing)' whether I search normally 
or Boolean. All appear to contain one of the found words. 

Do you want to look at http://www.htdig.org/attrs.html#search_algorithm
and the 'exact' setting?
