I assume by this you mean the mechanism to get URL-encoded (or SGML
encoded) contents of variables in the templates. I'd like to take
care of this one. I still don't know exactly which syntax to go with.
Two suggestions were $%(VAR) and $&(VAR) for URL- and SGML-encoding,
respectively, or something more like $[URLencode $(VAR)] and
$[SGMLencode $(VAR)]. The first is more compact, but has the problem
that the "&" may appear as "&" if the template is put together by an
HTML editor. (It would be easy to check for that, though.) The second
form has the advantage of expandability. Any preferences? I'm sort of
leaning towards the first, and we can add on the second form if/when we
need to expand the available encodings.

When I e-mailed Mike Grommet about this a couple weeks ago, he said the
last patch he posted to the list was complete enough for his needs. I
haven't had time to go back and look for it to test it out. If no one
else wants to, I can tackle this too. Basically, it's just a matter of
testing the patch, adapting it to the 3.2 code, and documenting the new
attributes.

I agree, and both of the above can certainly fall in that category. If they
don't make it into 3.2.0b1, then maybe b2 or later, though I will give it
a shot.

Another addition:

* change MAX_WORD_LENGTH to config attribute                    ?

This is a small one too, I think. If no one wants it, I'll tackle it.

Any other time I spend on ht://Dig will be just on bug fixes, which there
will no doubt be a lot of in the upcoming betas.
