Well someone volunteered to do this and has since not responded to 
the 1-2 e-mails I sent in followup. I'd obviously like to see this in 
the first beta, but unless someone steps forward, it's not going to 
get done.

We'd have to modify the Berkeley code. I'll just mention that this is 
a Linux problem and may be helped by the transparent database 
compression Loic contributed. (I don't think it's turned on yet.)
