Do these changes appear reasonable (or do they signify a
problem)?
My htdig db's increased 29% after the upgrade:
db.words.db: 67% increase -- to 122 MB from 73 MB
db.wordlist: 47% increase -- to 150 MB from 102 MB
db.docs.index: 26% decrease -- to 4 MB from 6 MB
db.docdb: 9% decrease -- to 131 MB from 134 MB
overall: 29% increase -- to 408 MB from 316 MB
This is with htmerge finding 187MB in documents (word count
150,155; documents 48,548).
I am digging exactly the same document group, and I've been
reading that the dbs should be smaller now. While there wasn't a
max_doc_size attribute in 3.1.0b2, very few of my directories are
large and my files tend to be small -- so that seems unrelated.
The only other change that I did at the same time was to upgrade
to Apache 1.3.6 and add mod_ssl. Can't see that having an effect.
This is mainly a concern about speed. Primarily for htsearch, but
also that it took about 6 hr. to dig this time versus 1 hr., 45
min. previously (I'm using local_urls, running on
Linux2.0.36,P150/96MB RAM).
Thank you for any suggestions.
Sincerely,
Jeff Hill
