Of course, the presence of the "4" shades the separation of code and
content somewhat.
I would disagree. All that is being done here is changing the _display_ of the data, not the data itself. Should the code really care if the data is displayed in 4 or 3 columns? I would say not. I'm all for separation of code & presentation, but IMHO this is one area that purely falls under the display side. My $0.02.
