I don't have access to the server, unfortunately - hence, my reason for
asking .. :/

I'd love to, but I don't have access to anywhere but the cgi-bin dir.

Well, thanks for the contributions, guys - it sounds like the way I have it
setup, should work fine, but there's something majorly wrong with the config
of the server.  Guess I'll have to go see if I can find a sysadmin!
