The main thing the TMPL_IF offers is the choice for the template writer to
change the format.  If you hardcode it to "SELECTED" you're requiring a
selection box, vs. radio buttons (which use "CHECKED").

(Well, technically if you leave the non-selected ones blank you *could*
still use it in a TMPL_IF, but that's a bit risky...)
