Yeah I dislike the Fn key interface too.

Reminds me Norton/Total/Midnight commander, really. And, WordPerfect 
4.3/5.1: IOW: another era

What bugs me about it is that it usually doesn't even work in a modern 
terminal. Many a sub menu/dialog must be dismissed with F10. Guess what 
happens when you press F10 on gnome-terminal, konsole, etc.... : Yeah. 
Menu-bar. Not helpful.

Then again, it's no issue for me, since I'm quick to just remove the 
menubar. I mean, shortcut keys FTW.
