Roland, I think it is important that we get an alpha version of HttpClient 4.0 asap, because it may help get other people looking at HttpComponents and give us some feedback. Once the first alpha is there we can take all the time it takes to get things right. If I happen to have some time on my hands before December, I'll probably take a first stab at it.
