The handshake is done at a lower level -- no coding necessary. What Vivek was referring to was turning on DEBUG logging so you can see what it's trying to do. I believe it's the "httpclient.wire" log you want to see. See the logging guide on the web site -- it's a pretty straightforward setup if you have a modicum of log4j knowledge.
