HTTP retry handler is invoked only if there was an I/O exception of some
kind. Given the log entry above, I am pretty sure an exception was
thrown and correctly propagated to the caller (that is, your application
code). Please double-check that the exception has not been quietly
discarded by your application.
as far as I know I don't get any exception.

PS: Consider upgrading to HttpClient 4.0. It is a matter of time support
for HttpClient 3.1 will be discontinued.
