Based on http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HTTPCLIENT-258, my guess
is that HttpClient doesn't yet support pipelining.
Though the last comment on it was by Oleg, from 3 years ago,.

actually be Range: requests against S3 (since S3 does not support
multi-Range requests, I've got to pipeline a bunch together).
